Mehta : Controversy has arisen following a statement made by Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma, the head of Damdami Taksal Mehta.

In a religious gathering, Dhumma suggested that every Sikh family should aim to have five children. This statement has circulated widely on social media, sparking both support and opposition.

Dhumma proposed that Sikh families unable to support five children should consider giving four of them to Damdami Taksal for nurturing and education. He emphasized the importance of religious education, stating that these children would be groomed to become community leaders, Granthis, preachers, and more.

Expressed concern over less population of Sikhs

He expressed concern that without serious efforts to increase the Sikh population, Punjab could face a future where Sikhs become a minority. Currently, Sikhs make up 52 percent of Punjab’s population, with the remaining being migrants from outside the state.

Dhumma highlighted the issue of youth falling victim to drug abuse and criticized the lack of participation in drug prevention camps. He recalled a time when education and drug prevention efforts were combined in camps, leading to positive outcomes.

Dhumma stressed the necessity of increasing the Sikh population to secure the community’s future.

Chairperson of Women’s commission condemned his statement

Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has condemned Baba Dhumma’s statement. Lali said that Baba Dhumma is a respectable person and he should give such statements keeping all the aspects in mind.
