Trains delay 12 to 24 hours; severe heat causing inconvenience for passengers

Jalandhar : Trains like Shatabdi are taking up to 5 extra hours to reach Jalandhar via diverted routes. Moreover, at the city station, numerous trains like the Garib Rath, Amrapali, and Sachkhand Express are observed arriving 12 to 24 hours late.

The delayed schedules of these trains are exacerbating passengers’ discomfort, resulting in prolonged waits and perspiration at the stations.

Due to the scorching heat, people are hesitant to leave their homes, but those who need to travel by train are bracing themselves for delays. The ongoing farmer protests at the Shambhu border have resulted in the closure of the railway track after Ambala, leading to trains being diverted onto alternative routes.

Trains from Ambala Cantt are rerouted via Chandigarh, New Morinda, Sarhind, and Sahnewal roads. Similarly, passengers traveling on other trains are redirected via Sahnewal, Chandigarh, and Ambala Cantt.

Additionally, routes via Jakhal, Dhuri, and Ludhiana are being utilized. The delayed schedule includes the Swarna Shatabdi (Train No. 12031), which is running 5.15 hours late to Jalandhar, causing prolonged waits for passengers going Amritsar.

Moreover, the Amritsar-New Delhi Express (Train No. 12421) is delayed by approximately 3-4 hours. Passengers on crucial trains like the Amrapali Express (Train No. 15707) and the Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22487) are facing delays of up to 3 hours. This has affected more than 150 trains today, causing significant distress for travelers.

Passengers are seen returning home after prolonged waiting

Several passengers are seen returning home after waiting for a while. Some travelers are visibly distressed and opt to return home due to the prolonged wait for trains. Those who can cancel their plans express frustration at the extensive delays.

Passengers gather information through mobile phones and leave for their homes accordingly. Elderly individuals who are not adept at using mobile devices to gather train information may be observed wandering around the station in confusion.
