Haryana: Verification of Voters face Wearing Burqa and Veil

Anganwadi worker will check their faces at polling stations; Decision after Madhavi Lata case in Hyderabad.

Haryana: Government female employees will verify women wearing burqa and veil. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has been alerted in Haryana after the mask controversy of BJP’s Madhavi Lata in Hyderabad.

The Commission will conduct verification of ‘Pardanshin’ voters, especially in rural areas. For this, Anganwadi workers and assistant nurses have been specially appointed. They are being appointed for rural booths. where “Veil” in Hindu and “Burkha” in Muslims is a general thing.

Anganwadi workers will do identify their face from voter card. The main aim is to stop fake voting in on May 25.

BJP supporters from Nuh district has demanded this provision. Nuh district of Haryana ha sbeen known for the practicing of fake voting.

Local BJP leader told to media “We all know what is happening in Nuh district”. After the incident of Hyderabad, we dont want this thing to repeat again”. That’s why administration should adopt this provision to verify the women’s face by cross checking their voter card.

According to the Election Commssion, if feels necessary then they can verify the voter’s face from the voting card. While doing this thing, first have to taken care of the women safety and confidentiality. For this EC has issued instructions to the Returning Officer for the verification of women face.

Also, other arrangement also needed for this kind of verification, different queue should be made for them. Women election officer should take care of this.
