Chandigarh : On the occasion of the 40th annual commemoration of the massacre of June 1984 at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, every Sikh has ordered to observe the Martyrdom Week from June 1 to June 6. Black turbans should wear on the heads and women should wear black dupattas as a sign of protest.

Expressing this, Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that in June 1984, the marks of the military attack on Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and about 37 other Gurdwara Sahibs by the government of the time cannot be erased from sikhs minds and every year the Sikh community remembers the military attack of June 1984 as disaster.

He said, The governments should have apologized for this heinous act, but the story of bullying the Sikhs continues. Even today, justice is not being done in the case of Bandi Singhs. Even after serving more than three decades of punishment, Sikhs are not being released, which is a great injustice to the Sikh community.

Advocate Dhami appealed to all the Gurdwara Management Committees and the Sikh community to observe the 40th anniversary of the Ghallughara.

He said that as per the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the entire Sikh community should be a part of the Martyrdom Week by remembering the government atrocities. On this occasion, along with the martyrdom ceremony at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, ceremonies will also be held in Gurdwara Sahibs managed by Shiromani Committee and these atrocities will be remembered.
