CWC meeting in Delhi: Resolution passed to appoint Rahul Gandhi as leader of opposition

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting has started at Ashok Hotel in Delhi under the chairmanship of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge said - Wherever Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra passed, the party's seats have increased there.

New Delhi: The CWC meeting which was held in Delhi has passed a resolution to appoint Rahul Gandhi as leader of the opposition in the parliament. Congress leader Ajay Rai talking about the same said, “It was the CWC’s wish that Rahul Gandhi be made the LoP and be the voice of the common man and raise their issues in the Parliament… We are working on why we got fewer seats in some states. Their claim of ‘Congress mukt’ has failed and the country has now become ‘Congress yukt’ again.”

Newly elected MP from Ludhiana Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that all members of CWC appealed Rahul Gandhi to become the LoP as he is the only one who can face the Prime Minister.

Raja Warring further talked about Congress winning a maximum of 7 seats in Punjab. He said that the decision to not contest the election in alliance with AAP in Punjab was a correct decision.

Many big leaders including Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi are present in the meeting. Election results are being reviewed here. In the meeting, Rahul Gandhi can be elected as the leader of the parliamentary party and the leader of the opposition.

Information about the decisions taken in the meeting will be given through a press conference at 1 pm.

At 5.30 pm, there will be a meeting of Congress’s Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs in the Central Hall of Parliament. Kharge will also give dinner to the party leaders at Ashok Hotel.

Kharge said – We accept the mandate

He said, “We humbly accept the public opinion. A large section of the people of the country have trusted us. We will make every possible effort to maintain their trust. We have to remain disciplined. We have to remain united.”

“Our work will continue, whether we are in power or not. We have to be among the people 24 hours, 365 days, and raise public issues. Elections in important states are due in a few months, we have to defeat the opposition parties at any cost and form our government. People want change, we have to become their strength.” he added.

Gave credit for victory to Bharat Jodo Yatra

Kharge said, “I would like to thank all my senior colleagues of Congress who worked as a team. It was the result of our collective efforts that our workers across the country worked with a new zeal and enthusiasm. They made significant contributions in their respective areas. We always have to remember that with hard work and determination we can defeat even the biggest opponents.”

“In Manipur, from where Nyay Yatra started, we won both the seats. We got seats in many states of North-East like Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya. We emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra. Congress party got immense support from people across the country for saving democracy and constitution.” he added.
