Gurdaspur youth in Saudi Jail

He had trapped in a false case of theft, not released even after serving 5 years of sentence.

Gurdaspur: Prem Pal, a youth from Kila Nathu Singh village in Gurdaspur, went to Saudi Arabia in 2013 to earn a living and was working as a truck driver for a company there. One day, some boys from Punjab stole goods from his truck, but the company sent him to jail in a theft case. Even after serving 5 years of sentence, the Saudi Arabian government is not releasing him, and 2,30,000 riyals (45 lakh rupees in Indian currency) are being demanded from the youth’s family.

The family said that it has been 11 years since Prem Lal was trapped abroad. They have spoken to many political figures, but no one has answered yet. The family has appealed to the newly elected MP from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, for help.

Prem Lal’s wife, Ranjit Kaur, told her that her husband, Prem Lal, went to Saudi Arabia to work as a driver in 2013 to earn a living. After his 2-year visa expired, he had to come on leave, but one day when he was resting in the park after parking his truck, some youths from Punjab stole the goods from his truck.

The Saudi Arabian court sentenced him to 5 years, but now, despite serving a 5-year sentence, the government is not releasing him and demanding 2 lakh 30 thousand riyals (Rs 45 lakh in Indian currency) from the family as compensation. His family is very poor. He has two small children, who are already being raised with great difficulties. She cannot pay such a huge amount.

She said that she has knocked on the doors of many political people to get her husband Prem Lal released, but no one has helped her. Her husband is still locked in cell number H-43 of Smasi Jail in Saudi Arabia. She has appealed to the Central and Punjab governments, the newly elected MP from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and social workers to get her husband released from jail.
