Ludhiana: Farmers made Ladowal toll free; Vehicles passing without paying tax

Farmers have made the Ladowal toll plaza built in Phillaur between Ludhiana-Jalandhar on the Delhi-Jammu National Highway in Punjab free.

Ludhiana: Farmers have made the Ladowal toll plaza built in Phillaur between Ludhiana-Jalandhar on the Delhi-Jammu National Highway in Punjab free.

The farmers removed the employees and vacated the toll booths. After this, they have staged a sit-in by laying mats in the empty lane. Farmers say that until the toll rates are not reduced, they will keep the toll free indefinitely. During this time, vehicles are passing through the toll without paying tax.

The Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union says that the rates of this toll have been increased for the third time in the year. This is the most expensive toll in Punjab. He said that if a vehicle does not have a fast tag, then it has to pay a tax of Rs 430 for one round.

If a resident of Ludhiana has to go to Phillaur, then his fuel cost is Rs 200 while his tax is more than Rs 400. This is not justified in any case.

Appeal to common people to reach toll plaza
Farmer leaders appealed to common people to reach toll plaza for their protest. They said that vehicles of farmer leaders used to pass free even earlier but this protest is for the people.
