New Delhi: Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced on Sunday that talks are underway regarding the sale of excess renewable energy to India.

According to a statement from the President’s Media Division (PMD), a feasibility study is currently assessing the possibility of establishing a power line connection between Sri Lanka and India, with further discussions planned during the upcoming visit of the Indian Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka.

President Wickremesinghe also noted the completion of a pre-feasibility study for a land connection between the two countries, with plans for a comprehensive feasibility study in the near future.

These developments were highlighted following the President’s recent visit to New Delhi, where he attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony and engaged in discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Minister Jaishankar is expected to visit Colombo soon to monitor the progress of various development projects supported by Indian investments, including the proposed industrial zone in Trincomalee aimed at attracting Indian and other international investors, aligning with India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.
