The Russian President will go on a two-day visit to North Korea. This is his second visit to North Korea. He will reach North Korea on Tuesday after about 24 years. Putin’s possible visit to North Korea was being discussed for a long time.

This visit has also been confirmed by the Kremlin. The Kremlin has described this visit as a ‘friendly state visit’. During his visit, Putin will meet North Korean President Kim Jong Un. Putin may travel from North Korea to Vietnam on Wednesday.

Kim Jong Un himself will be present at the airport

According to the report of news agency AFP, Kim Jong Un himself will welcome Putin at Sunan International Airport in the capital Pyongyang. Along with this, his sister Kim Yo Jong and daughter Kim Ju Ae are expected to be present.

According to the BBC report, sources had indicated last week that Putin’s visit is going to happen soon. Satellite images also revealed the preparations going on for Putin’s possible visit to North Korea.

Weapons deal may be made with Putin

There are speculations about Putin’s visit that Kim Jong may make a deal related to economic aid and technology transfer to Russia in exchange for the necessary weapons. In fact, Russia needs more weapons to stay in the Ukraine war.

Military and economic cooperation between North Korea and Russia has increased rapidly since the Ukraine war began. The US and South Korea have accused North Korea of providing ammunition, missiles and other military equipment to Russia.

In a Bloomberg report, South Korea’s Defense Ministry has claimed that Russia has sent 5 million artillery shells to North Korea. However, both Pyongyang and Moscow have flatly denied the allegations of arms transfer.

Putin visited Pyongyang in July 2000, just a few months after becoming President in March 2000. He met Kim’s father and North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Il.

Russia and North Korea get closer

Kim Jong Un, who took power in North Korea in 2011, has tried to build better relations with Russia and China like his father. Kim Jong Un’s closeness to Putin can be gauged from the fact that Russia waived off all of North Korea’s debts in 2012.

According to reports, Russia has been isolated since the Ukraine war began and is trying to improve relations with anti-US countries. Before Putin’s visit, Kim Jong Un had visited Russia.

Putin’s visit will strengthen Kim Jong Un in the country

Professor Leif-Eric Isley of Ewha University in Seoul told news agency AFP that Putin’s visit will be seen as a ‘victory’ for Kim Jong Un. Putin’s visit will strengthen North Korea’s international image. Along with this, Kim Jong Un’s acceptance will increase further.
