Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur has also entered politics. She will contest by-election from Dehra assembly seat. On Tuesday, Congress high command announced Kamlesh Thakur’s ticket. Now Kamlesh Thakur will face BJP’s Hoshiar Singh. With Kamlesh entering the fray, the contest in Dehra has become interesting.
However, a few days ago, Chief Minister Sukhu had called the news of his wife contesting the election a false rumour. But the Congress high command has now put its stamp on her name. Kamlesh Thakur’s maternal home is in Dehra. Therefore, the party high command has fielded Kamlesh from here.
This is also the reason for fielding Kamlesh from Dehra
The second big reason for fielding Kamlesh Thakur from Dehra is that till date Congress has never won this seat. Dehra seat came into existence after delimitation in the year 2008. BJP’s Ravindra Ravi won the election from here in the year 2012. BJP rebel Hoshiyar Singh was elected MLA from here twice in the year 2017 and 2022.
Congress has not won the election from Dehra even once
Now the fourth election is being held from this seat. But till now Congress has not been able to open its account from Dehra seat. Therefore, Congress is trying to field the CM’s wife against BJP’s Hoshiar Singh. However, in the 2022 elections, the party had given ticket to Dr. Rajesh Sharma from here and he lost the election.
Dr. Rajesh was considered a strong contender
This time too, Dr. Rajesh was considered the strongest contender for the ticket. But during the last four-five days, the name of the Chief Minister’s wife was suddenly raised.
However, on Saturday, the Chief Minister has called this a false rumor. But its discussions are very hot in the political corridors. This is the reason why the ticket for Dehra along with the other two seats has been put on hold.
