Rohtak: Due to the scorching heat everything is become costly, the prices of vegetables are increasing continuously in Rohtak. The kitchen budget is also getting spoiled. The prices of vegetables have been skyrocketing since last week.
At present, the prices of some vegetables have increased 2–3 times.
Tomato, which was being sold at Rs 20 per kg a week ago, has now reached Rs 40 per kg and capsicum, which was being sold at Rs 15-20 per kg, has reached Rs 60–70 per kg.
The temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius. The effect of heat is now being felt on fruits and green vegetables as well. Due to the heat, vegetables are getting spoiled in the fields themselves. To increased demand for vegetables and less supply, there has been a significant increase in prices. This is directly affecting people’s pockets. The effect of increasing vegetable prices is that people have also started buying fewer vegetables.
Sonu Chhabra, head of the Sabji Mandi Arhatiya Association, said that this time the heat was higher and there was no rain. Due to this, production is also lower. Due to this, the prices of vegetables are skyrocketing. The arrivals in the market have also reduced. Even if it rains now, the vegetables will suffer losses. However, the prices of onions were not affected much by the heat. Other vegetables have increased by two to three times.
