Food Department inspectors suspend in Panipat

The Food and Supply Controller says that the headquarters has suspended the four inspectors.

Panipat: In Haryana’s Panipat, four inspectors who gave support to depot holders who grabbed rations worth lakhs of rupees from the poor have been punished. The Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs has suspended four inspectors.

These include Inspector Surendra Saini, Praveen, Amit Dahiya, and Bijendra. Three are currently posted in Panipat, while Bijendra Singh is posted in Karnal. After this big action, there is panic among the local departmental employees and officers.

It is worth noting that DFSC registered a case against depot holders and departmental officers two months ago, on April 12. Inspector Surendra Saini, programmer Srujan Bharti, and three depot holders, Anil, Lalita, and Umesh, were booked for embezzling rations worth more than Rs 20 lakh.

He had appealed to the headquarters to investigate his records for the last four years. In this investigation, it was revealed that these four inspectors are involved with these depot holders. The Food and Supply Controller says that the headquarters has suspended the four inspectors.

A special investigation was conducted by the headquarters in this matter.

Ankit of Gandhi Colony Agrawal Mandi had filed a complaint in the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs in April and accused the department’s inspector and programmer of embezzling rations in connivance with three depot holders.

He had alleged that three depot holders had attached the supply of five other depots and, by mistakenly declaring the ration stock issued in January, February, and March this year as old stock, by inspecting the POS machine with their fingerprints, 3 lacks, 26 thousand, 665 kg, 700 grams of wheat, 43,884 kilograms of millet, 2002 liters of mustard oil, and 1003 kg of sugar were made zero from the stock.

Apart from this, in the years 2021–22, he also accused the said depot holders of embezzling 1,47,505 kg of wheat, 9,631 kg of 800 grams of millet, 11, 961 liters of mustard oil, 4,020 kg of sugar, and 1132 kg of salt by not receiving the bill issued by CONFED, the stock in the POS machine. In this case, no recovery has been made from the depot holders or even a notice has been issued regarding the stock till now. The directorate summoned the report.

After the allegations of embezzlement in ration distribution in the complaint made by Ankit Mittal, the Directorate summoned a report from the District Food and Supply Controller on the matter. According to the report, embezzlement of an additional 17,315 kg of millet, 1,786 liters of mustard oil, 1009 kg of sugar, and 37,628 kg of wheat ration stock came to light from the POS machine of the Umesh depot holder and the ration supply Santosh attached to him. This was under the NFSA and PMGKAY schemes.

Additional 13034.7 kg of millet, 200 kg of sugar, 13,344 kg of wheat, and 280 liters of mustard oil were embezzled from the POS machine of Surendra and Puneet in the Lalita depot holder and ration supply attached to her. Whereas 6,339 kg of millet was found entered in one machine ID, 15,907.4 kg of millet, 6,429.3 kg of wheat, 258 kg of sugar, and 1986 liters of mustard oil stock were embezzled from the POS machine of the Anil depot holder, and Joginder and Nandkishore were attached to him. Whereas 1201 kg of wheat, 4831 kg of millet, and 257 kg of sugar were found registered in the POS machine.
