Retired railway priest murder in Jhajjar

The priest stayed in the temple for two years after the deaths of his wife and son.

Jhajjar: An elderly priest of a temple in Jhajjar, Haryana, was murdered with a sharp weapon. When the villagers reached the temple for worship in the morning in Chandol village, there was a stir after seeing the blood-soaked body of the priest. The police reached the spot as soon as the information was received. The forensic team was called after inspecting the situation. The body was later brought to the civil hospital in Jhajjar for a post-mortem.

According to the information, the deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Sumer’s son Nandlal, a resident of village Kannadavas in district Rewari. He retired from the railroad seven years ago. He was working as a priest in the temple of Chandol village for about 2 years. His wife, Santosh, died due to illness in 2015 and has a daughter and a son. An older son died in 2018 due to cancer.

ACP Shamsher Singh of Jhajjar said that the villagers had informed the Salhawas police station that the priest was lying dead in the temple of Chandol village. There are marks of injury from a sharp weapon on his body. On receiving the information, the police team reached the spot and started an investigation.

A case of murder has been registered against unknown assailants, according to the statement of the priest’s son, Vijay. The police have formed different teams to catch the accused. After the postmortem of the deceased was conducted by the police in the civil hospital, the body was handed over to the family.
