Jalandhar : An orange alert has been issued today on Sunday regarding rain in Punjab. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in various parts of Punjab today and on July 1.
After the alert issued by the IMD, residents have been advised to take necessary precautions. Rains with thunderstorms are expected to continue for the next 2-3 days, which will provide relief from the ongoing heat in the state.
Rain started in Amritsar and surrounding areas from 3 pm. Apart from this, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Kapurthala are also cloudy and it is raining intermittently.
According to the information released by the IMD, if we talk about Punjab, then an orange alert for rain has been issued in 9 districts Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar.
A warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm has also been issued here. While yellow alert has been issued in all other districts.
Monsoon did not change the situation in Punjab
Monsoon knocked in Punjab two days ago. Monsoon made this entry from Himachal Pradesh via Pathankot. But there has been no change in monsoon in Punjab for two days. IMD estimates that this year monsoon will rain better than normal. In the coming 2 to 3 days, monsoon will change its position and will become active in some more states of Punjab.
Rainfall decreased in the month of June
According to IMD, monsoon is expected to be better than normal. But, if we talk about the month of June, then from 1 to 29 June, the rainfall in Punjab has been much less than normal. Usually in these 29 days, 49.7 mm of rain falls in Punjab, but this year so far only 25.6 mm of rain has occurred, which is 48% less than normal.
