Srinagar: Where on the one hand, the majority of states of the country are receiving rainfall which has led to significant relief from the heat, Heatwave is persisting in the heaven of the country. While the rest of the country is getting drenched in monsoon rains, the Kashmir valley, which remains cool even in summer, is burning hot nowadays.
Be it Srinagar or Gulmarg, Sonamarg or the Amarnath Yatra route, for the first time the entire valley is in the grip of heat wave. The mercury is continuously above 32 degrees.
For the first time in the last 7 days, Srinagar is facing a temperature of more than 35 degrees. On Thursday it was 35.7 degrees in the Srinagar which is a record in itself. This is about 7 degrees more than normal temperature that remains usually in Srinagar during this time. Earlier on 9 July 1999, the temperature in Srinagar was 37 degrees.
Due to the persisting heatwave, summer holidays have been declared in the schools of the valley till 17 July.
The health department has also issued a health advisory. In the areas which were very crowded till 15 days ago, the number of tourists has decreased due to heat. This is the situation when monsoon has already arrived in Jammu and Kashmir.
