Tutor not found even after paying 1 lakh in Chandigarh

Byju's coaching ordered them to return 15 thousand, accused of mental agony and unfair behaviour.

Chandigarh: In the case of not getting a tutor in the app bought for one lakh in Chandigarh, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has held Byju’s Coaching guilty of unfair trade practice and directed it to pay 15 thousand 512 rupees for mental agony and financial loss. This petition was filed in the commission by Avtar Singh, a resident of Sector-40 D, and his wife, Navdeep Kaur, against Byju’s Coaching.

A learning app called Coaching Byju’s was purchased for better studies. On June 30, 2019, Rs 6,200 was paid in cash out of Rs 1 lakh for the purchased education app. The remaining amount was to be paid in monthly instalments of Rs. 4656.

The complainant was assured that a tutor would be made available to him. If he faces any kind of complaint, he will have the right to cancel the education app and get a refund. The complainant alleged that he requested a tutor, but it was not made available. Despite this, instalments of Rs. 4656 per month continued to be deducted.

The complainants requested to cancel the app and refund the amount. Byju’s Coaching neither cancelled the app nor refunded the amount. However, later, the accused party stopped deducting instalments but did not refund the amount deducted earlier to the complainants. On this, the consumer filed a complaint with the commission, accusing it of unfair trade practices.
