Punjab Weather updates: No heavy rain despite yellow alert, pocket rain brings down average tempt

Chandigarh: Despite the yellow alert in 18 districts of Punjab on Wednesday, there was no heavy rain reported. Instead, pocket rain in some districts has been reported which made the average temperature of the state drop by 2.9 degrees.

Monsoon is sluggish in the state. The biggest reason for this is the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon winds have been affected by the low pressure and its effect is also being seen on the Western Disturbance.

There are chances of rain in SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar and Gurdaspur in Punjab by 9 am. A yellow alert is issued in 9 districts of Punjab today, it is expected that the monsoon winds coming from Bengal and the Western Disturbance are expected to be active.

According to this, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar. At the same time, Sawan is going to start from July 22. It is estimated that after today, from July 22, the state will see the rains of Sawan.

Punjab has received 38% less rainfall this season so far. In the rainy season that started on June 1, 87.5mm rainfall has occurred till July 17, whereas normally 140.7mm rainfall should have occurred here.

In Punjab, only 4 districts Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Mansa and Sangrur have received normal rainfall so far. According to the Meteorological Department, 20% less rainfall is considered normal. Amritsar has received 19% less rainfall, while Tarn Taran has received 22% more rainfall than normal. Mansa has received 21% more rainfall and Sangrur has received 13% more rainfall. Otherwise, less than normal rainfall has been recorded in the entire Punjab. Fatehgarh Sahib has received 77% less rainfall, and Hoshiarpur has received 76% less rainfall.
