Amritsar: Customs seize gold worth over Rs 49 lakh

Amritsar: The Customs Department has seized gold worth about Rs 50 lakh at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar, Punjab. The gold seized from the accused has been evaluated and further action has been initiated. According to the information received, the accused landed at Amritsar Airport from Milan last night.

According to the information shared by the Customs Department, Neos flight number NO534 landed at Amritsar International Airport at night. During the customs check, a passenger’s luggage was checked. 4 gold bangles were recovered from his bag. During the investigation, the passenger was unable to show complete documents. After which the customs seized the gold.

According to the information received from the customs officials, the accused had brought 24 carat raw gold by converting it into 4 bangles. When the bangles were weighed by the customs, their weight was found to be 672 grams. After this, they were evaluated, which turned out to be around Rs 49,92,960/-. At present, the gold has been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is underway.
