Amritsar: In Amritsar district, police have arrested a Bhujia seller on charges of drug smuggling. 21,300 drug dollars have been recovered from the accused.
The accused used to supply opium by keeping it in Bhujia packets. According to Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon, the accused used to bring opium consignments from the Bareilly district of UP. He used to sell it in Amritsar and surrounding areas.
The arrested accused will be produced in court, taken on remand, and thoroughly questioned about his connections.
The Police Commissioner said that the accused became a drug smuggler out of greed to make money easily. Earlier, he used to supply Bhujia at many places. Due to less work after the lockdown, he started the business of drug smuggling. He used to do by hiding it under the guise of Bhujia’s work.
During patrolling, the police arrested the accused near Nanda Hospital, Verka Bypass. On searching him, 3 kg and 120 grams of opium were recovered. Along with this, Rs 21,300 in drug money was also recovered. The accused has been identified as Hitesh Mehra, alias Ishu (32), son of the late Bhajan Lal, a resident of Kucha Awa, Gate Bhaktawala, Amritsar.
