Finance Commission Chairman reaches Amritsar; paid obeisance at Golden Temple

Industrialists demanded a special package; demand for trade from Attari-Wagah raised.

Amritsar: The chairman and other officials of the 16th Finance Commission are in Punjab today. After a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh yesterday, the Commission officials reached Amritsar today. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema and Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal arrived to welcome Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya. During this, a meeting of the Finance Commission with industrialists was also held at Hotel Taj in Amritsar.

Many important issues of Punjab were raised in the meeting, and a demand was made to take necessary steps to revive the industry of Punjab. After the meeting, the commission chairman reached the Golden Temple to pay obeisance. After this, the Commission also went to see the retreat at the Attari border.

Apart from the industrialists present in the meeting, the Secretary of the Punjab Government has also demanded a special package for Punjab, like the neighbouring states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. They say that incentives are given to the industry in the neighbouring states, and despite that, the industry is going there. Due to this, Punjab is suffering losses and Punjab is lagging.

More than 500 km of Punjab borders with Pakistan. To encourage the youth here, a special package should be given for the border area. So that industry can come here and the youth can get jobs.

The industrialists said that the infrastructure is ready at the Attari-Wagah border. Only the business should be restarted. The government will also get revenue, and Punjab will also benefit from it. The decision of 200% tax that was taken after the Pulwama attack should be withdrawn. So that the goods can be sent directly. Now the businessman has to first send the goods from Mumbai to Dubai and then to Karachi.
