Batala: Body of Sarpanch found after 5 days in Bhoma Wadala canal

The body of the Sarpanch of Bharthwaal village near Batala was found in Bhoma-Wadala canal on the fifth day. Sarapanch along with 2 more drowned in the canal. The bodies of the other 2 were recovered earlier while body of Sarpanch has been found after 5 days. Giving information in this regard late evening, SHO.

Giving information in this regard late evening, SHO of Ghania-ke-Bangar police station Sukhwinder Singh said that 5 days ago, Bharthwaal village near Batala’s Sarpanch Ranbir Singh son of Ajit Singh was bathing in Lahore Branch Canal and was swept away due to the strong current of water. In bid to save him, his two companions Makhan Singh son of Sarwan Singh and Kartar Singh son of Bachan Singh who were standing on the bank of the canal jumped into the canal but unfortunately they too were swept away in the canal.

SHO said that the police party recovered the bodies of Makhan Singh and Kartar Singh with great difficulty with the help of people and divers but nothing could be found about the body of the said Sarpanch Ranbir Singh.

The water of the canal was stopped by the police to carry out the search operation to recover his body. SHO Sukhwinder Singh said that despite all this, they continued the search operation day and night to find the body of the Sarpanch.  With the help of the SDRF divers’ team, police have recovered the body of Sarpanch Ranbir Singh Bharthwal from the Bhoma-Wadala canal in Majitha district.
