25th Kargil Vijay Diwas: PM Modi targets Pakistan, says ‘Army reforms are first priority of our Govt’

Kargil: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the 1999 Kargil War. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memoria in Drass, Ladakh, on the occasion of the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and all ranks of the armed forces also joined in remembering the supreme sacrifice made by the soldiers during the Kargil war. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh offered his tributes to the valiant bravehearts of the Kargil War at the National War Memorial in the national capital Delhi.

On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war in Ladakh. He also visited the Kargil War Memorial. In his nearly 20-minute address, the PM talked about Pakistan, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Agneepath Yojana and the opposition.

The PM said, “Pakistan wants to remain in the news through proxy war. They have not learned anything from their history. In the past, all their efforts regarding terrorism failed. From where I stand, my voice must be reaching the masters of terror. Their plans will never succeed.”

The Prime Minister further said,  “Army reforms are our first priority. Agneepath Yojana is a part of it. For decades, there were discussions in Parliament on making the army young. This topic was raised in many committees, but the will power for this change was not shown earlier.”

“The mentality of some people was that the army means saluting the leaders, doing parades. For us, the army means the security of 140 crore countrymen, guarantee of peace. We have made it a reality through the Agneepath Yojana. Unfortunately, some people have made such a sensitive issue a subject of politics”, PM Modi added further while addressing.

PM Modi to visit Kargil

Today is Kargil Vijay Diwas. On 26 July in 1999, Indian Army soldiers hoisted the tricolor on Tiger Hill and defeated Pakistan in the Kargil War. Since the, the day is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the valor of our soldiers. In this war that lasted for 84 days, 527 soldiers of the Indian Army were martyred, while 1,363 were injured. At the same time, more than 400 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kargil in Ladakh. He will attend the silver jubilee program organized at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.

Here PM Modi will pay tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war. He will also meet their families. Programs are being held from 24 to 26 July on the occasion of the silver jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Drass.

According to the PMO, PM Modi will attend the program to be held at the Kargil War Memorial built in memory of the martyrs of the Kargil War in Dras at around 9:20 am. After this, PM Modi will also do the first blast to start the Shinkun La tunnel project. The Shinkun La tunnel project includes a 4.1 km long twin-tube tunnel. This tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. After completion of the work, it will be the highest tunnel in the world.
