Fine of Rs 2.91 crore on construction company in Rupnagar

Bridge construction not completed even in 3 years, report sent to Ministry of Highways. 

Rupnagar: The construction of a bridge being built since 2021 in Rupnagar, Punjab, has not been completed to date. Today Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav inspected this under-construction bridge being built on the Sirhind Canal. He has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore 91 lakh on the company constructing the bridge. The amount of the fine will be deducted from the amount to be paid to the company.

A bridge is being constructed on the Sirhind Canal near the Nehru Stadium in Rupnagar. The bridge has been constructed since the year 2021 but has not been completed to date. Now people are making fun of the government by climbing on this bridge and making reels.

On receiving complaints of delay in the construction of this bridge, Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav visited the bridge today. He has issued a notice to the concerned company and has issued orders to deduct Rs 2 crore 91 lakh from their fixed amount.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed the department officials and the company representatives to complete this construction work as soon as possible so that this bridge can be opened for traffic given the problems of the people.

The DC said that the National Highway Department has issued a notice to impose a penalty for the delay in the construction of the bridge. The final decision in this regard will be taken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and till now a deduction of Rs 2,91,28,808 has been made from the payment made to Singla Construction Private Limited.

Executive Engineer National Highway Sandeep Kumar, while giving information, said that the construction of the 135-meter-long steel bridge will cost a total of Rs 52.77 crore, which will be opened for traffic within three months.

He said that the construction of this steel bridge is being monitored by the National Highway Division Rupnagar, because of which the department may impose a fine against the construction company.
