Amritsar: Following the latest direction from SGPC, All Nishan Sahibs were changed today here in Golden Temple Amritsar. A few days ago, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and then Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee ordered to change the colour of Nishan Sahib in the premises of Gurudwaras to Basanti (xanthic) or surmai (dark grey blue) from Kesri (saffron). Today, the saffron colour Nishan Sahibs of all the gurudwaras under Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) were changed into Basanti-colored Nishan sahibs.
This morning, after Ardaas in Golden Temple, saffron cloth was removed from Nishan Sahib dedicated to Miri-Piri near Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Basanti was put on it. After this, all Nishan Sahibs under Golden Temple were being removed one by one and Basanti Nishan Sahib were put on.
In fact, in the meeting of the Jathedars of the five Takhts held in Amritsar on July 15, it was decided that now in every Gurdwara Sahib under the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), instead of saffron color, Nishan Sahib of Surmai (dark blue) or Basanti (yellow) color will be hoisted.
After the orders given by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, now SGPC issued a circular on July 26. The circular issued by the Dharm Prachar Samiti also orders Sikh preachers to create awareness among the Sangat and Gurdwara management about Sikh Rahat Maryada.
The decision to change the colour of Nishan sahib from Saffron to Xanthic has been well-received by the people. Many historical gurudwaras have already changed the Nishan sahib as per the new directives. For a Long time, Gurudwaras under SGPC have been hoisting Saffron-colored Nishan Sahibs in the premises whereas on the contrary Gurudwaras managed by Nihang groups have already been hoisting Xanthic and Surmai-colored Nishan sahib.
