Taxi driver murder: Unknown assailants shot dead Chandigarh taxi driver in Samrala, probe on

Samrala: In a shocking incident, a taxi driver who was carrying passengers from Chandigarh to Ludhiana in his Alto Taxi was shot dead on his way back to Chandigarh. The incident took place at the Samrala Bypass during the wee hours. The assailants shot dead the taxi driver and fled away with his taxi.

As per reports, Samrala police recovered the body of a young driver near village Harion of Chandigarh Ludhiana bypass in Samrala at 5:30 am today. The driver was shot with several bullets which resulted in his death on spot. DSP Tarlochan Singh of Samrala Police reached the spot and started investigation after taking possession of the body.

Police reached the spot and identified the body. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Chandigarh. Ravi was an Alto taxi driver. After shooting the deceased taxi driver, the assailant allegedly took away the Alto car of the driver. Samrala police was informed about this by the family of the deceased. The father of the deceased said that the deceased Ravi Kumar had been driving a taxi for three to four months.

He said, “At night my son told me that I had got rides from Chandigarh to Ludhiana. So he is going to Ludhiana. After that, the call came again in the early morning when Ravi himself informed his father that he had been shot.”

DSP Samrala Tarlochan Singh said that we had found the body of the young man with bullet wounds. He added that soon the mystery of this murder will be solved and accused will be arrested.
