Himachal Pradesh expands ration distribution to include migrant workers at depots

Instructions have been issued in this regard by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs.

Shimla: The Food Ministry of India has made a provision for the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme across the country under the National Food Security Act. Under this scheme, now migrant workers living in urban areas and areas around it across the state will be able to go to fair price shops and get ration in the same way as about 18.5 lakh ration card consumers of the state take ration every month. Instructions have been issued in this regard by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs.

Under these orders, migrants living in all the districts will now be able to go to the depots every month and get ration by carrying their Aadhar card or ration card. In fact, during the Corona epidemic in the year 2020, the biggest problem for migrant workers living in many parts of the country was food security.

After that, it was decided by the Food Ministry that no citizen of the country should remain deprived of food under any circumstances.

After that, the One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme was approved. A figure indicates that 37 per cent of the country’s population consists of migrant workers. In this regard, the Food Controller of Hamirpur district Arvind Sharma said that this facility has been started in Hamirpur district as well. The department has made special arrangements to provide rations to migrant workers living in Hamirpur city and its surrounding areas under the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme. Under the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme, if someone has made ration cards at two places, then that can also be stopped.
