Jalandhar: In a rapid response to a drug-related tragedy, the Jalandhar Rural Police have apprehended a key suspect in connection with a drug-related death that occurred in Mehatpur. The tragic incident, involving the death of a 29-year-old man, has sparked an intensive investigation.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jaswinder Singh, son of Mukhtiyar Singh, resident of Beetla, police station Mehatpur. Additionally, Sukhwinder Kaur alias Goga, daughter of Jeet Lal, resident of Gonaswal, police station Mehatpur, has been nominated in the case.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said , “The investigation commenced after a complaint was filed by Gagandeep Singh, son of Mukhtiar Singh from Bagiwal. The deceased, Amritpal Singh, son of Dalbir Singh, a resident of Bagiwal, reportedly procured a white powder from the accused. Tragically, after injecting the substance, he succumbed to its effects.”
In this regard FIR (No. 93) registered on August 9, 2024, under sections 105 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita registered against the accused at Mehatpur Police Station.
Following the registration of the case, a police team led by SHO Mehatpur, under the supervision of DSP Vijay Kanwar Pal, promptly initiated the investigation and launched a manhunt, resulting in the swift arrest of the accused.
During preliminary investigations, the accused admitted to supplying the drugs to the victim.
The arrested accused will be produced in court, where we will seek remand for further investigation. This will help the police team explore potential forward and backward linkages in the case and possibly make more arrests. The police team is conducting raids to arrest Sukhwinder Kaur who is at large.
Sending out a strong message, SSP Khakh added, “Let this be a warning to all those involved in the drug trade. We will leave no stone unturned in bringing to justice those who seek to destroy lives with narcotics. The law will be enforced with full vigour against such individuals.”
SSP Khakh urged people, especially to the families of the addicts, that they should take them to de-addiction centres and also inform the police about the suspected suppliers.
