Landslide disrupts NH-5 in Kinnaur: Traffic halted, tourists and goods stranded, road repairs take time

At the same time, the Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in the state today.

Shimla: The series of landslides is not stopping due to continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh. From Friday night to Saturday morning, the road has been completely blocked due to the falling of stones from the hill in Nigulsari of Kinnaur district on National Highway 5.

During this time, vehicles carrying fruits and vegetables as well as tourist vehicles are stuck. People say that it may take a long time for the road to be blocked.

Due to falling stones from the hill, the movement of small and big vehicles from Reckong Peo to Rampur, Shimla, and Shimla to Reckong Peo has completely stopped. Many vehicles of tourists, including trucks and pickups loaded with apples and peas, are stuck on both sides of the road.

Resident Himayan Negi said that it may take some time for National Highway 5 to open. The process of falling stones from the hill continues intermittently. In such a situation, it may take time for the National Highway Authority to restore the road smoothly. He said that the department’s team and machinery had reached the spot to restore the road. They are busy restoring the road. Let us tell you that last year also a big landslide took place in Nigulsari on National Highway-5. In which about 200 meters of the road had sunk.
