Over 24k cigarette sticks worth Rs 4.21 lakh seized at Amritsar Airport

Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, Customs Department recovered over 24,800 sticks of cigarettes from the baggage of the passenger here at the Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Amritsar. The cost of recovered cigarette sticks is estimated to be over Rs 4 lakh.

Yesterday, on baggage scanning, the officers of the Baggage Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport Amritsar intercepted one passenger. The passenger has arrived at the SGRDJI airport yesterday, i.e. on August 12 from Sharjah. The pax arrived via Indigo flight No. 6E1428.

On suspicion, customs officers conducted a personal search of the passenger and his baggage. The search resulted in recovery of 24800 sticks of cigarettes from the passenger’s baggage. The recovered cigarettes have been valued at Rs. 4,21,600 aarrying brand label of Gold Flake. The cigarettes were being brought illegally and were recovered by the customs department.

The smuggled cigarettes were seized on 12.08.2024 under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under process.
