No By-election in Punjab, ECI not declare dates for 4 Vacant assembly seats

Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana, but has not yet announced the dates for the seats in Punjab which have fallen vacant after the Lok Sabha elections. It was being speculated that along with the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana, by-elections may be held on the four assembly seats vacant in Punjab along with the two states. But by not making any announcement about this, the Election Commission has indicated that a separate date will be fixed for the by-elections in the state.


Let us tell you that during the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s cabinet minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer contested from Sangrur seat and won with a huge margin. After his reaching the Lok Sabha, the assembly seat Barnala has become vacant.

Similarly, Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has also become an MP from Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat. His Gidderbaha seat has also become vacant. Former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, has also reached the Lok Sabha from Gurdaspur seat. By-election is to be held on his vacant seat too. Similarly, after being elected as MP from Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seat, Chabbewal assembly seat of Dr Rajkumar Chabbewal is also vacant. By-election is to be held on that seat too.
