India gets first medal in Under-17 World Wrestling Championship as Raunak Dahiya wins bronze medal,

The gold medal in this category was won by Ivan Yankovsky of Ukraine. He defeated Zoltan Jako 13-4 in the final match.

India won its first medal on Tuesday (August 20) in the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship 2024 being held in Amman, Jordan. Young wrestler Raunak Dahiya has won the bronze medal in the Greco-Roman 110 kg category. In the bronze medal match, Raunak defeated Emrullah Capcan of Turkey 6-1. Earlier, Raunak lost 0-2 to Zoltan Jako of Hungary in the semi-final match. The gold medal in this category was won by Ivan Yankovsky of Ukraine. He defeated Zoltan Jako 13-4 in the final match.

Raunak Dahiya’s journey in the championship

Raunak Dahiya, who trains at Delhi’s famous Chhatrasal Stadium, started his championship campaign with an 8-1 win over Artur Manvelyan. After that Raunak won by technical superiority over Daniel Maslako. But he was out of the race for the gold medal after losing the semifinal match.

Sainath Pardhi is another Greco-Roman wrestler from India who is in the race for the bronze medal. In the 51kg category, he will face Munareto Dominic Michael of the USA in the repechage round.

If he manages to defeat Munareto, he will face the winner of the match between Sargis Harutyunyan of Armenia and Iuri Chapidze of Georgia for the bronze medal.
