Kolkata Horror: Supreme Court resume hearing, urges doctors to come back to work

The agency told the court what information has been found so far in the 9-day investigation. A 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has started hearing the Kolkata rape-murder case.

The Calcutta High Court handed over the rape-murder case to the CBI on August 13. The Supreme Court ordered the CBI to submit its investigation report on August 20.

On the other hand, the Kolkata Police has also submitted the investigation report of the vandalism that took place in the hospital on the night of August 14-15. The Supreme Court also reprimanded the West Bengal government and police for negligence in the case.

Development so far

The West Bengal government transferred the new principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Surhita Pal, Medical Superintendent Dr. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay and HoD of Chest Department Arunabha Dutta late on August 21.

The doctors, who have been protesting for the last 11 days regarding the rape-murder case, had demanded the removal of all these officers. Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay has been appointed as the new principal in place of Dr. Surhita Pal. The state government has also cancelled the transfer order of former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, former deputy superintendent of the medical college Akhtar Ali has demanded an ED inquiry against former principal Sandeep Ghosh from the Calcutta High Court. He alleges that many financial irregularities took place during Ghosh’s tenure.
