MUMBAI: The great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will flag off the Half Marathon in Mumbai. Around 20,000 participants including more than 6,000 women are expected to participate in it. Tendulkar will flag off the marathon at 5 am for from Bandra Kurla Complex. More than 8,000 athletes have registered for the 10 km race while 4000 runners will descend in the 21 km marathon. Athletes from other states will also take part in the marathon.
5000 athletes will participate in the 5km race and more than 3000 athletes participate in the 3 km race.
1500 athletes of the Indian Navy will participate in the race. Organizers of the marathon said that this year there has been a 31 percent increase in the number of female participants taking part in the race.
Sachin Tendulkar said in a release, “We aim to promote running as a means of fitness and bring this approach in life”. He added that it is encouraging to see a significant increase in registration for the Mumbai half marathon this year in comparison to the previous one.
