Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 225 grams of heroin concealed in the dashboard, along with Rs 1 lakh in cash and an electronic weighing scale.
The SSP revealed that during interrogation, the accused confessed to being involved in drug peddling for a considerable time. “They admitted to supplying heroin in different areas of Jalandhar and Jagraon. Recently, they had procured one kilogram of heroin, of which 225 grams were recovered,” Khakh added.
A case under Sections 21B, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Lambra police station.
Notably, the main accused, Gurcharan Singh, has a criminal record with cases registered against him in Rajasthan and Punjab, including charges under the NDPS Act and Arms Act.
The SSP Khakh stated that the accused would be produced in court to seek police remand. “We are hopeful that further interrogation will lead to more arrests and help us uncover the larger drug network operating in the region,” he said.
This operation is part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking initiated by the Jalandhar Rural Police. The authorities have urged the public to report any information related to drug peddling to help combat the menace.
