New Delhi: It’s a big day for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal as the Supreme Court will hear the bail plea in the CBI case related to the liquor policy case today. Earlier on August 23 the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan had heard the case and posted it for hearing on September 5. During this, the CBI had told the court that it had filed a reply in one case while it needed more time to reply in the other case. On the appeal of the agency, the court has given a week to the CBI to file its reply.

During the last hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the court that the Delhi Chief Minister has gotten bail thrice despite the strict provisions of Section 45 of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He also cited the interim bail orders given by the Supreme Court on May 10 and July 12 and the regular bail given by the trial court in the PMLA case on June 20. Singhvi appealed that given the past record of this case, Arvind Kejriwal should be granted bail.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal on July 12 in the ED money laundering case. While granting bail, Justice Sanjeev Khanna had said that Kejriwal has been in jail for 90 days. Therefore, we order him to be released. We know that he is an elected leader and it is up to him to decide whether he wants to remain the Chief Minister or not. Even after getting bail from the Supreme Court in the ED case, Arvind Kejriwal couldn’t come out as he was arrested by the CBI in the same case.

ED submitted the seventh supplementary chargesheet in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on June 9. In this 208-page chargesheet, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was described as the mastermind and conspirator of the case. The chargesheet said that the money received from the scam has been spent on the Aam Aadmi Party. It was also claimed that Kejriwal had demanded a bribe of Rs 100 crore from South Group members for liquor-selling contracts, out of which Rs 45 crore was spent on the Goa elections
