There is no respite from firing incidents in Punjab, in yet another incident reported Jagraon, bike borne two assailants opened fire targeting a social worker who was travelling along with his father and brother.
The incident occurred in village Dholan in Jagraon on Sunday night when the trio was returning home in their Bolero vehicle. However, all three had a narrow escape and were unhurt in the incident as the bullets hit the bonnet and radiator.
Complainant Jaswinder Singh of village Roomi and President of Ekta Welfare Trust said that the Ekta Welfare Trust provides free meals, milk, and food to patients in hospitals across Ludhiana, Moga, and Jagraon, as well as distributing clothes and books to underprivileged students. The trust operates three vehicles daily for these services. Singh’s brother, Arshdeep Singh, manages deliveries in Moga, while another team member, Amarjit Singh, handles operations in Jagraon. Jaswinder Singh himself oversees distributions in Ludhiana.
“On Sunday night, when I was returning home after distributing langar my vehicle broke down and I called my brother for help. Later, both my brother Arshdeep Singh and my father Jugraj Singh arrived to assist,” he said while adding that after leaving the vehicle with a mechanic, the three were en route to their home in Village Roomi in a Bolero when two men on a motorbike attacked their vehicle with a baseball bat, smashing the windows. The attackers then stopped ahead of the car and opened fire.
Jaswinder also stated that he had also been receiving threatening emails from an anonymous account.
After receiving the information, the Sadar Jagraon police have initiated investigation into the matter and registered a case under sections 109 and 3(5) of the BNS, along with sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act, against the two unidentified attackers.
ASI Sukhmandar Singh, in charge of the Chaukimann police post, said the police are conducting a thorough investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage of the nearby areas, and analyzing the IP address of the email account used to send threats to Jaswinder Singh.
