Beirut: There were several serial blasts in the pagers (communication devices) of Hezbollah members in Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Times of Israel, 11 people have died in the blast. The dead include 8 Hezbollah members and 1 girl.
More than 3000 people have been injured in this attack. The Times of Israel had earlier reported that 4000 people were injured. Now it has been revised.
The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon is also among the injured. Israel is being claimed to be behind this incident. Hezbollah also said that it holds ‘enemy’ Israel responsible for this attack.
Israel has not given any statement on this matter so far. According to media reports, the pagers have been hacked and blasted. Eyewitnesses said that smoke was coming out of people’s pant pockets before the blast.
A pager is a wireless device used to send and receive messages. It usually comes with a small screen and limited keypad. With its help, messages or alerts can be received quickly.
