Vigilance Bureau in action as Constable arrested for taking bribe of Rs 49,800 in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested constable Kanwarpal Singh posted at Nakodar police station on Wednesday for taking a bribe of Rs 49,800. The Vigilance Bureau team produced the accused in court and placed him on one-day remand. Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of village Madrasa in Sri Muktsar Sahib, had lodged a complaint against the said.

Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of village Madrasa in Sri Muktsar Sahib, had lodged a complaint against the said policeman with the Vigilance team. After which, taking action, the Vigilance Bureau team has arrested the accused constable.

Demanded 6.5 lakhs in the name of getting a job

It is alleged in the complaint that he is a security guard in a private company. The accused policeman had demanded a bribe of Rs 6.50 lakh from the complainant in lieu of getting him a job in the Home Guard on compassionate grounds. The Havildar asked him to give Rs 50,000 as the first installment.

After this, the accused Havildar repeatedly pressured him to transfer the amount to his HDFC account through Phone-Pay. The accused had taken ten thousand rupees each. The victim had paid a total of about 49,800 rupees.

During the investigation, it has been proved that the said constable had taken bribe from the complainant. On the basis of this investigation, a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Jalandhar Range of the Vigilance Bureau and further investigation of the case is going on.
