After animal fat, tobacco found in Tirupati Prasadam Laddu, claims devotee

Amidst the allegations of animal fat being mixed in the laddus of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple (Tirupati Temple) of Andhra Pradesh, now tobacco has been claimed to be found. A woman devotee from Telangana has alleged that she has found pieces of tobacco wrapped in paper inside the laddus. She has posted a video of this.

The accuser Donthu Padmavati is a resident of Gollagudem in Khammam district. She had gone to Tirumala temple on 19 September. She had brought laddus from there. The video of finding paper in the laddus has been shared on some social media accounts.

On the allegations of Tobacco in the Prasadam Laddu, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has reacted. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams refuted the allegations, stating that it is not possible to suggest that the Tirupati laddu contained tobacco.

Earlier on 18 September, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that vegetable oil with animal fat and fish oil was mixed in the laddus (prasadam) of Tirupati temple during the YSR Congress government in the state. The next day, TDP claimed to have confirmed its allegations by showing a lab report. With reports, it was found that substandard ghee was used in the making of Laddu Prasadam. 

Major Developments in Laddu Row 

The Union Health Ministry has called for ghee samples from 4 companies. One of these companies, AR Dairy Foods’ ghee failed the quality test. The government has issued a show cause notice to it.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Swamy has demanded a court-monitored investigation against the use of animal fat in Prasadam.

Rajya Sabha member and former Devasthanam (TTD) chairman Y.V. Subba Reddy has also demanded a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the matter.

A meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad was held at Sri Lalita Peetham. The VHP has appealed to the Supreme Court to take action on the allegations of adulteration in Tirupati Laddu and start an investigation to identify the culprits.
