Jalandhar : The Bhogpur Co-operative Sugar Mill is gearing up to procure around 70,000 MT of stubble this year as part of its ongoing crop residue management initiative. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal disclosed that the mill has installed an 80 Ton Per Hour (TPH) boiler along with a co-generation plant of 15 MW capacity.

In the previous year (2023-24), the mill successfully procured over 60,000 MT of paddy. This initiative not only helped curb the stubble burning issue in the district but also contributed to sustainable energy production.

Dr. Aggarwal further informed that the mill procures stubble from local fields at a rate of Rs. 1,750 per ton, generating wealth from waste while simultaneously increasing farmers’ income and creating employment opportunities in the region.

As the mill recommenced operations on September 16, 2024, it aims to procure around 70,000 MT of stubble during the current year (2024-25). Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that the mill’s contribution is crucial in managing crop residue and significantly reducing the pollution caused by stubble burning. This initiative continues to benefit both the environment and the local farming community.

The Bhogpur Sugar Mill’s efforts underline a sustainable approach to crop residue management while addressing key environmental challenges in the district, he added.
