Vigilance Bureau nabs canal patwari red-handed for taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 for allotting water for irrigation

Sangrur: In its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today caught Canal Patwari Karamjit Singh, posted at Jiledari Branch, Village Ladbanjara, District Sangrur, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. Disclosing this, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused has been arrested on the basis.

Sangrur: In its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today caught Canal Patwari Karamjit Singh, posted at Jiledari Branch, Village Ladbanjara, District Sangrur, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Disclosing this, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Darshan Singh, a resident of village Chahad, District Sangrur.

He further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and informed that he has 25 acres of land, out of which canal water has already been allotted for irrigation for 8.5 acres of land, and in lieu of allotment of canal water for irrigation for the remaining land, the said Patwari Karamjit Singh is demanding a bribe of Rs 2,600 per acre from him.

The spokesperson said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap, during which the said Patwari Karamjit Singh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in the presence of two government witnesses.

He said that in this regard a case has been registered against the accused Patwari under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Police Station Patiala Range of Vigilance Bureau and further investigation of the case is going on.
