Gandhi Jayanti is observed annually to celebrate the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as the ‘Father of the Nation.’ This day is marked by nationwide tributes to Gandhi and is recognized as a national holiday.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, and he played a pivotal role in the Indian freedom struggle through his principles of non-violent resistance, which ultimately led to India’s independence in 1947.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, served as India’s second Prime Minister from 1964 until 1966. He passed away on January 11, 1966, in Tashkent, shortly after the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan. Shastri was a visionary leader, deeply influenced by Gandhi’s teachings, and he worked tirelessly for the progress of the nation.
