Matter of Rs 2 crore bid for Sarpanch post reaches High Court, petitioner calls it ‘violation of code of conduct’

Gurdaspur: The matter of the Rs 2 crore bid for the post of Sarpanch in village Hardowal Kalan of district Gurdaspur has reached Punjab and Haryana High Court. In the petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, it has been appealed to issue guidelines by making it a violation of the Punjab State.

In the petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, it has been appealed to issue guidelines by making it a violation of the Punjab State Election Act. The petition will be heard today by the court.

This petition has been filed in the court by Advocate Satinder Kaur. She told the court that Panchayat elections are going on in Punjab at this time. Voting for Punjab elections is scheduled for October 15. Ahead of polling, bids are being made for the post of Sarpanch.

The petition further said that in village Hardowal Kalan, falling under Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency of Gurdaspur district, a bid of two crores has been made for the post of Sarpanch which is unconstitutional. The plea demanded that the Code of Conduct of Punjab State Election Act have been violated by bidding in the elections and instructions should be issued in regard of this.

For the unversed,  BJP leader Atma Singh made a bid of Rs two crore was made by him for the post of Sarpanch in Hardowal Kalan. The runner-up bid by Jaswinder Singh was made of Rs 1 crore. It was said that the bid made for the post would be used for the development of the village. But on the other hand, villagers rejected the bid made by Atma Singh and unanimously elected Bibi Jyoti of AAP as the Sarpanch of the village.
