Udhampur police have enhanced security measures throughout the Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir in preparation for the vote counting scheduled for October 8. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure stated that a three-tier security system is in place at the counting locations in the Union Territory.
Jammu and Kashmir held its assembly elections in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results set to be announced alongside Haryana’s on October 8. The security structure includes the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) as the first layer, followed by the State Armed Police, and then local district police as the third layer. Additionally, officers at the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level will oversee security at both strong rooms and counting halls. There will also be special traffic arrangements for the counting day.
The SSP noted that a 100-meter perimeter around the strong rooms and counting centers will be established as a “No Pedestrian Zone,” restricting entry to authorized personnel only, who must present proper identification. A detailed traffic plan is being developed to inform citizens and minimize disruptions on the counting day.
According to Axis My India, the elections may result in a hung assembly, with the National Conference-Congress alliance slightly leading and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) closely following the opposition. The National Conference (NC) and Congress are collaborating for these elections, while other significant players include the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP.
