Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his gratitude towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved its highest-ever vote percentage in the recent assembly elections. The party claimed victory in 29 seats, surpassing its previous record of 25 seats from the 2014 elections, with a vote share of 25.64%, according to the Election Commission of India.

In a post on X, Amit Shah thanked the citizens for their support, stating, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have blessed the BJP with the highest percentage of votes in this assembly election. I express my heartfelt gratitude for this support, and I congratulate all BJP workers for their tireless efforts.”

Shah emphasized the BJP’s commitment to the development and security of the region, underlining the goal of making Jammu and Kashmir terror-free and comparable in development to other parts of the country. He also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s role in ensuring the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections, contrasting it with the past Congress rule, which he criticized for allegedly undermining democracy through election rigging.

“In the past, the Congress created a reign of terror, but under the BJP, a great festival of democracy was celebrated peacefully,” Shah remarked. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi for instigating this significant change in the valley, where citizens could vote without fear.

Shah also extended congratulations to the Election Commission, Jammu and Kashmir Administration, and security forces for facilitating a peaceful and transparent election process, marking a notable improvement since the onset of terrorism in the 1980s.

In the assembly elections, the National Conference-Congress alliance secured an absolute majority by winning 49 seats, with the National Conference taking 42 and the Congress 6. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 1 seat, while the PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti managed to capture only 3 seats.
