Mumbai: Singer Diljit Dosanjh paused his concert in Germany to pay an emotional tribute to veteran industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away on Wednesday night at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. A video of Diljit speaking about Tata has circulated widely on social media. Diljit expressed his condolences on Instagram, sharing a post from his fan page, teamdiljit, with the message “RIP Ratan Tata.”
In the viral clip, Diljit, addressing the audience in Punjabi, said, “You all know Ratan Tata. He has passed away, and I felt it was important to honor him today. Throughout his life, he worked very hard. Everything I’ve heard and read about him shows that he never spoke ill of anyone.”
He continued, “He has always dedicated himself to hard work, good deeds, and helping others. This is life, and this is how we should be. If there’s one lesson we can take from his life, it’s to work hard, think positively, be helpful, and live life to the fullest.”
Diljit has been touring the US and Europe for several weeks, and will begin the Indian leg of his tour in October. The Indian tour will start at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26, and will continue to cities like Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati.
The public will have the opportunity to pay their last respects to Ratan Tata at the NCPA Lawns in Nariman Point, Mumbai, on Thursday at 10:30 AM, with the cremation set for 4 PM. A statement from Tata Trust detailed the arrangements, instructing the public to enter through Gate 3 and exit through Gate 2, as there will be no parking available on site. Police have cordoned off Marine Drive road beyond the Oberoi hotel in preparation for the event.
Ratan Tata was one of India’s most respected industrialists. Under his leadership, the Tata Group flourished and made significant contributions across various sectors, including philanthropy. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 until his retirement in 2012, after which he was appointed Chairman Emeritus. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.
