A man in West Tripura district has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and mother-in-law following a social media post. The 51-year-old accused, a poultry farmer from Madhupur in Sepahijala district, has been separated from his wife for over a year.

Living with his two sons in Madhupur, the man’s wife had filed for divorce and had been residing with her mother in Netajinagar for the past year and a half.

On Sunday, she posted photographs with two male friends during the Durga Puja celebrations on social media, which enraged her husband. In a fit of rage, he plotted to kill her.

As the mother and daughter were returning home, the husband attacked them with a sharp weapon, resulting in their deaths at the scene, according to West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K.

A police team arrived promptly and discovered the bodies in a pool of blood. The suspect was apprehended within an hour, and an investigation is ongoing. He is expected to be presented before a local court shortly, the officer added.
