Bathinda: After the record stubble burning in Punjab for the last four days, a reduction in the cases was registered on Monday. But if the same is compared to the last two years, then no much difference was recorded.
On Monday, 68 new cases of stubble burning were reported, whereas on the same day in the year 2022, there were 82 cases of stubble burning and in the year 2023, there were 89 cases of stubble burning. Due to the continuous burning of stubble, the AQI of various cities of Punjab does not seem to be improving at the moment. Bathinda recorded the highest AQI of 172. Apart from this, Mandi Gobindgarh recorded 144, Patiala 118, Ludhiana 99, Khanna 98. Jalandhar 81.
It is worth noting that for the last four days, more cases of stubble burning have been reported in Punjab as compared to the last two years. There were 123 cases of stubble burning in Punjab on October 10, 143 on October 11, 177 on October 12 and 162 on October 13.
There were 68 new cases of stubble burning in Punjab on Monday. With this, the total count has now increased to 940. At the same time, from this time period i.e. September 15 till now, there were a total of 1069 cases of stubble burning in the year 2022. Whereas in the year 2023, 1319 cases were reported. On Monday, the highest number of 18 cases were reported in Amritsar district. Also, 14 cases were reported in Tarn Taran district, 13 in Patiala, seven in Sangrur, 2-2 cases of stubble burning in Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, SAS Nagar and Malerkotla and three in Ferozepur and 1-1 case in Fazilka, Barnala and Ludhiana. The cases of stubble burning in Punjab are to be monitored till November 30.
Smog may soon cause trouble in Punjab. According to Surinder Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department’s Chandigarh Centre, night temperatures will start falling from the end of October or the beginning of November.
