Punjab Assembly Bypolls: Voting for four seats on November 13, Counting on Nov 23

The election will be held on November 13 whereas the counting of votes will be held on November 23. 

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced by-polls for a total 48 assembly constituencies and 2 parliamentary constituencies. In Punjab, Assembly by-polls will be held on four seats namely, Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Barnala, and Chhabewal. The election will be held on November 13 whereas the counting of votes will be held on November 23.

four Assembly seats will witness bypolls as their former MLAs have recently been elected as Members of Parliament (MPs). Following their election to the Lok Sabha, they resigned from their Assembly seats.

Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who represented Barnala, is now an MP from Sangrur, while former Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has been elected from Ludhiana.

Raj Kumar Chabbewal is now an MP from Hoshiarpur, and former Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa represents Gurdaspur in the Lok Sabha. The political atmosphere in these constituencies is expected to heat up in the coming days as parties gear up for the polls.
Along with the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, by-elections can be announced on 3 Lok Sabha and 49 assembly seats in 13 states including Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi has resigned from Wayanad seat in Kerala. Nanded seat in Maharashtra has fallen vacant due to the death of Congress MP.

Talking about assembly by-elections, it includes 10 seats from UP, 7 from Rajasthan, 6 from West Bengal, 5 from Assam, 4 from Bihar, 4 from Punjab, 3 from Karnataka, 3 from Kerala, 2 from Madhya Pradesh, 2 from Sikkim, 1 from Gujarat, 1 from Uttarakhand and 1 seat from Chhattisgarh.

As per Election Commission, Bye Elections to 47 Assembly Constituencies & 1 Parliamentary Constituency (Wayanad) in Kerala will be held on 13th Nov. Bye Polls to 1 Assembly Constituency in Uttarakhand will be held on 20th Nov and Bye Elections to 1 Parliamentary Constituency (Nanded) in Maharashtra on 20th Nov. The counting of votes for all by polls and assembly elections will be held on Nov 23.
