Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians (MI), who have clinched the Indian Premier League (IPL) title five times, have announced the return of former Indian cricketer Paras Mhambrey as their Bowling Coach for the upcoming season. A statement released by MI on Tuesday confirmed that Mhambrey will collaborate with current Bowling Coach and Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga as part of the coaching staff under Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene.
Paras Mhambrey previously served on the Mumbai Indians’ coaching team during a successful period that saw the franchise win the IPL in 2013, the Champions League T20 titles in 2011 and 2013, finish as runners-up in 2010, and make it to the playoffs in two more seasons. Most recently, he worked as the bowling coach for the Indian men’s cricket team, contributing to their T20 World Cup victory earlier this year, a position he held since 2021.
In his playing career between 1996 and 1998, Paras represented India in two Test matches and three One Day Internationals (ODIs), taking a total of five wickets. A medium-pacer, he played for Mumbai from 1992 to 2003, accumulating 284 wickets in 91 first-class matches and 111 wickets in 83 List A games.
Additionally, MI has named Jayawardene as the head coach for the upcoming season, a role he previously occupied from 2017 to 2022. He takes over from South African great Mark Boucher, who coached the team for the past two seasons. Last season, MI struggled, finishing last with only 4 wins and 10 losses under the leadership of returning star Hardik Pandya.
